Tidal River Medway flood warnings for Rochester
In Rochester the flood risk comes from the tidal river rather than rain alone: a high spring tide with a storm surge and strong winds can push the Medway over low ground by the water. The Environment Agency covers the town with two areas. The Tidal River Medway and Medway Estuary flood warning includes the Medway Towns, Upnor, Hoo and Lower Halstow. A separate warning area covers the tidal river between Allington and Cuxton, just upstream. When we checked on 2 November 2026 at 1.45pm, no flood warnings or alerts were in force within ten miles of Rochester.
