A man has died after being hit by vehicles on the M2 near Gillingham on Tuesday night. Kent Police is appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

The force was called at 9.10pm on Tuesday 27 October. The collision happened on the coastbound carriageway between junction 4 and the slip road for Medway Services, according to the Kent Police appeal.

The force said a local man in his 50s, who was on foot in the carriageway, “was reported to have been struck by a red MAN HGV and other vehicles”. Emergency services went to the scene, where he was confirmed to have died. His next of kin has been told.

Kent Police has not named the man and we will not speculate about how he came to be on the motorway.

How to help the investigation

Kent Police is asking two groups of people to come forward:

  • Anyone who saw the collision and has not yet spoken to the police. Call the appeal line on 01634 792209, quoting reference 46/178213/26.
  • Drivers with dashcams who were on that stretch of the M2 on Tuesday evening. Check your footage, and upload anything that may help through the online portal linked from the force’s appeal page.

What it means for you

If you drove the M2 coastbound past Medway Services around 9pm on Tuesday 27 October, check your dashcam before it records over the footage. Many dashcams record on a loop and overwrite older footage.

We will update this page if Kent Police releases more information.
